Giant Gerrardanthus macrorhizus Mature Caudex – Caudiciform Climbing Collector Plant

A remarkable giant Sleeping Bag caudex plant selected as an individual collector specimen.

Its defining feature is the exceptionally substantial rounded caudex, measuring approximately 15–16cm across at its widest point and around 14cm high, excluding the climbing growth.

The mature caudex has developed a naturally aged, corked and textured outer surface, while fresh green vines and shoots continue to emerge from the crown.

This is the exact individual plant photographed, not a representative example, and only one specimen is available.

The listing photographs were taken on 7 August 2026 while the plant was actively growing. As new growth is continuing to develop, its appearance may naturally change before dispatch.

Plant Care Guide

Provide bright indirect or filtered light with good airflow. Gentle direct sunlight can be introduced gradually.

During active growth, water thoroughly after the growing medium has dried sufficiently. Avoid keeping the large caudex continuously wet and always use a highly free-draining growing medium.

This plant naturally alternates between active growth and dormancy. During dormancy, vines and leaves may yellow, dry and fall away. This is a normal part of the plant's natural growth cycle and does not automatically indicate poor health.

Leaves and vines may also be affected temporarily by shipping stress. During dormancy, reduce watering substantially. The firmness and overall condition of the caudex/root body remain the key indicators of the plant's condition.

Shipping Information

This specimen will be shipped bare root. The nursery pot pictured is not included.

The plant is currently actively producing fresh climbing shoots. For safer transportation, we may slightly shorten or trim some of the longer new vines before dispatch.

If you would like the existing vines left intact, please let us know before dispatch and we will do our best to retain them.

Please understand that long, tender new growth is much more vulnerable during transportation. If the vines are retained, bending, broken tips, leaf loss or minor stem damage may occur during shipping.

A small area of the caudex's outer skin was accidentally scraped/damaged during handling. The existing affected area is visible in the close-up photographs.

Because of this cosmetic imperfection, the plant has been reduced to £149.

We expect the affected surface to dry and callus as the plant continues growing, although we cannot guarantee exactly how quickly or completely the cosmetic mark will change.
